I couldn't believe it when I found out I made it on the show. But the bonus was that I made it along with two good friends (who I would later find out I was actually competing against!). I had tried and failed to make the show in previous attempts on my own, but to make it on during Bragging Rights week was more than perfect.
Luckily for us, we are also friends with WOF superfan Eugene Byon, who took the time to coach us and even host practice games in person (he's the ultimate WOF home game host). Matt Popovitz, who is also from Houston and was on WOF this same season, suggested that I practice using the app and crossword puzzles, which also helped a lot.
More than anything, I just wanted to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience of being on WOF and not make a huge mental mistake during our show. Being on the show with two great friends and competing against one another while genuinely rooting for each other's success was the cherry on top. I could not have asked for a better WOF experience.
Since we all work together and also know each other from church, we hosted a watch party for everyone to come and watch together. Getting to be on my favorite game show was one thing, but getting to do it with these guys was something I never expected — and will never forget.
Oh, and how cool is it that we took home Olympic-style WOF medallions? Best swag ever. I guess the only thing missing is that we didn't win the million together!
