I was totally surprised when I got the email for an interview to be on Wheel of Fortune. I happened to apply after a guy I matched with on a dating app responded to a prompt saying he was on an episode of WOF. I had always watched it growing up and would constantly tell my family that I should go on the show.

I’m an elementary teacher, so I have a solid phonics background—and that definitely helped me with solving puzzles. I purchased a puzzle book to practice and downloaded the app on my phone.

On the show, I was a bit disappointed after controlling the wheel for most of one round. I was so excited to get the Million Dollar Wedge and the Wild Card that I blanked on the first word. For my fellow teachers—it was a CVC word, so that killed me!

One thing Wheel taught me is that background knowledge is a major help. When I solved a toss-up, I knew the song because I love Beyoncé. My fellow contestants may not have known that one!

Even though I wasn’t the big winner, I still had the time of my life and would go back as a fan favorite (if given the chance) in a heartbeat! I would love a redemption round!

I highly encourage anyone interested to apply—and if you get the chance, take it! I am forever grateful for this experience and can’t wait to watch alongside my friends and family on Thanksgiving Eve.
