Not only is Wheel of Fortune an American staple and pop culture icon, but it’s also a global phenomenon. Growing up in Jamaica, without even having a family television, watching the show with others on a neighbor’s TV was just as iconic as the old U.S. ad where the family gathered in their living room to watch. The show became a staple in my household and was a daily bonding moment between my mom, dad, me, and my siblings—and later on, the grandkids—all the way up to the present day.

Having a Spin ID even before migrating to the USA, I finally decided to apply to be a contestant. This was in honor of my parents, who always said during our times watching (while in Jamaica… lol) that I should go on the show. They didn’t think about the fact that it was only for U.S. residents… lol.

It all happened so fast, and I thought the gods and my folks must have been pulling some strings. I’m still in awe and probably will be long after the airing.
