Take a spin back in time!


Did you know that Wheel of Fortune wasn’t always the game we’ve all come to know and love? But it was close! Wheel first aired in 1973 as “Shopper’s Bazaar.” It had a bigger Wheel that was positioned vertically and the host was Chuck Woolery. The big difference, however, was its prizing format; instead of contestants winning cash prizes, they competed for shopping sprees that happened after each round. During the shopping portion of the “Shopper’s Bazaar,” one of the most sought-after prizes was a ceramic Dalmatian named Sheldon. While Sheldon is no longer available for contestants, he is Wheel’s official mascot and lives backstage on our Culver City, CA set.
