As long as I can remember I have loved the show Wheel of Fortune and have wanted to be a contestant. For about the last 10 years or so I’ve been applying online to be on the show and this past July I finally received an email stating that I should come to NYC for an audition! Afterward, some people were asked to stay for another round and I wasn’t selected to stay. I was so disappointed because I thought I did pretty well! But the audition coordinators told us if we had been selected to be a contestant, we would receive a letter in the mail in 2 weeks time. Well 2 weeks came and went and I didn’t get a letter. I said to myself, “It’s ok, you can apply again next year.” I wasn’t going to give up. Then unexpectedly the following week I received the letter saying I had been chosen to be a contestant! I was shaking! About two weeks later I got an email from Teddy (one of the awesome contestant coordinators) saying they would be taping at the end of August and I had until 5 pm THAT DAY to let them know if I would be there. Well of course I said yes! Lol Many people don’t know that you are responsible for all costs associated with traveling to both the audition and to California for the taping. Just something to consider prior to the audition.
The day of the taping was surreal from the moment we stepped into the studio. I also had no idea that the audition coordinators I met in NYC are the contestant coordinators you work with at the studio! They are all so nice and friendly and keep you smiling and motivated throughout the day. I was beyond nervous the entire morning up until I stepped up on the stage to begin filming “my” show. I just made it a point to try to have fun! It is definitely so much harder to solve the puzzles in the studio though! I am going to be kinder in my judgements when I watch from home from now on haha It is true that the wheel is incredibly heavy. I also couldn’t believe how much smaller it looked in person!
When I realized I would get to go to the bonus round, I was in disbelief. I chose “Phrase” and somehow, even without a lot of letters popping up, I solved “Barely Above A Whisper” to win an additional $45,000!! I think I scared Pat with how badly I freaked out lol
Throughout this entire amazing experience I have learned to never give up!! I achieved one of my life’s goals and then some because I persisted. Not bad for a stay at home mom from south jersey! It was the experience of a lifetime and I wish I could do it all over again!! This time I would remember to give Pat and Vanna a hug.
