Growing up we would spend our summers with our grandparents in Port Jervis, NY. Every night we would gather around the small TV in their bright lime green kitchen and watch Wheel of Fortune, each of us taking a turn guessing the puzzle (Grandpa was the best). So many wonderful family moments were built around that show, so when we had an opportunity to be a part of the contestant pool, we went for it!
After two year since first applying online to be on Wheel of Fortune, Britany finally received an email to audition at Denver’s Brown Palace Hotel. The email advised that she could bring along a family member, so with her husband at a wedding, Monique was the go to girl.
We arrived at the hotel with nervous excitement for the audition, but the hotel staff informed us that there was no such audition taking place! They had no idea what we were talking about; Were we being scammed? Was that email a lie?! As we were beginning to lose hope a manager corrected the employee and lead us to the banquet hall where we gathered with other excited possible contestants. What a relief! There were many rounds to the audition process - written quizzes, calling letters, solving puzzles, introducing ourselves - and we gave it our all each step of the way. We figured that if this was as far as we get, lets make the most of it. So glad we did because it was a total blast! We felt pretty good about how we performed at the auditions, and we were hopeful that we would get a letter in the mail confirming that we were going to be one the show.
A week passed, nothing. Two weeks passed, nothing. Friends, family, and co-workers kept asking for an update, but we had none to give them. It felt like we were waiting forever. Just when we were about to give up hope, week three came and so did the letter! We were going to be on WHEEL OF FORTUNE!!! We called EVERYONE!!!!! The letter distinctly said that we would be contestants during the next 2 years. Other people we had auditioned with, who had also made it as contestants, got their calls within months, but we still hadn’t heard anything. A year passed, nothing. Once 18 months passed and we figured that it might not happen, and again we were beginning to lose hope. Then out of the blue two years later as we were meeting a friend for dinner we got THE CALL just before entering the restaurant. Like the classy girls we are, we barged into the restaurant exclaiming, “WE WERE GOING TO BE ON WHEEL OF FORTUNE!!!!!!!!!” Needless to say, a drink or two was on the house. We could not believe it was happening. It was completely surreal and magical.
Once we were done calling everyone, including our wonderful Grandma who introduced us to the Wheel, we started cramming and became obsessed with everything WOF, including the app, which we played endlessly. We had to come up with a strategy. Britany doesn’t like to lose!!! We had two weeks to prepare for the most fabulous experience sisters could share - Family Week on WOF! Be sure to watch us on Wednesday, November 13th, to see how we did on the show!

Hands down Wheel of Fortune is the best game show ever! From start to finish, we had the time of our lives. There were a lot of nerves, sweat, squeals and squawks between us, but we cherished every minute we were there.
We arrived at the Sony Studios in Burbank at 7:30am, and we were escorted into the studio where Wheel of Fortune is filmed. The set was beautifully decorated as a holiday winter wonderland and situated in the middle was the actual WHEEL and LETTERBOARD. They were smaller than we envisioned, yet also larger than life. It was amazing to see the crew finishing up all the prep for the stage - painting the wheel by hand, fixing broken letters, and adding more of the perfectly puffed snow. All of the contestants, including us, were in awe.
After reviewing the logistics of the day and the contestant agreement, we were sent to hair and makeup where the most generous group of women made us all feel and look our best. As we waited for others to get pampered, we got to know the other contestants and learn about their adventure to get on the Wheel of Fortune. So many people had grown up watching Wheel, like we had, so this certainly made us feel like we were about to be a part of something special. There were a couple of families that we had a fabulous connection with, and we were very pleased when we actually got paired with them to play the Wheel! Big thanks to Ken and Marva, and Sandra and Elissa! We got our competitive spirit on and harassed each other throughout the show. Big love to you all!
We were able to watch a few tapings until it was our turn. Before we went on stage Monique asked the makeup artist that was retouching her face where she got her beautiful bracelet from. She didn’t tell Monique, but instead told her that it was lucky and that she should wear it during the show. And so she did and it was VERY LUCKY! We started out rough - nice going Britany - but ended up building momentum throughout the game. The team warned us beforehand to never give up and that the contestants who really get into it, do the best. So we kept on going and never lost our competitive edge.
Having played Wheel at home was very different than playing it with PAT and VANNA live! Pat was great and constantly reassured us (we definitely needed that). Vanna was just as we imagined (sweet, sincere, lovely), except we didn’t expect her accent - she has a deep, charming southern accent.
When we won our first puzzle we went nuts, and the craziness only increased as we won again and again. We were so genuinely excited that we hooted and hollered, so much so that we think we damaged poor Pat’s ear drums, and everyone within ear shot. We each won a fabulous trip for two to St. Thomas (which we didn’t realize because we were screaming so much), a camera (again, had no idea), and some prize money!!! We MADE it to the bonus round, and although we didn’t win that final puzzle (PAVED BIKEWAY- really???), we loved every minute we were there. We would love to thank the makeup artists, the contestant coordinators, Pat and Vanna. You’ve made two girls dream come true! We would also LOVE to a give a shout out to the best mom in the world - Holly(wood). We love you!!
