What is your Wheel story / what made you apply to be on Wheel?
I have been watching Wheel since I was 6 years old. It has been a family tradition and played a huge part in uniting my family. Regardless of all our differences, we sat together at dinner time and competitively watched the show! With all of us so spread out now, I still watch keep the tradition alive and watch it when I can after work. This past summer I had received email notifications (being part of the Wheel Watchers club) to submit a video and application online. It was totally a sign from the universe to act now and before you know it, I was at an audition. The audition itself was such an incredible experience. It was a group audition and we played a bunch of puzzles. I was lucky enough to solve my own puzzle and win a Wheel of Fortune hat. I totally bombed the written test but walked out with a happy face. Less than 2 weeks later I got a letter in the mail congratulating me for getting on the show! I spent a lot of time playing the Wheel of Fortune app and got to level 63. I highly recommend playing it for practice and playing the head-to-head part of the app too. Within a couple months, I was ecstatic when I received the phone call for the official taping, and immediately booked my ticket. Growing up around NYC my whole life, there is something magical about flying to Los Angeles. My mom, aunt and good friend flew out with me. My younger brother and his wife were in San Diego so they came up for the taping too.
What was it like meeting Pat & Vanna?
Just entering the Sony Studios on the shuttle bus from the hotel was a total dream come true. It was bright and early but it did not feel nerve wrecking at all – I would assume the feeling is like walking into Willy Wonka chocolate factory for my fellow chocolate lovers. The contestant coordinators were so welcoming, one of them even remembered my name from the audition! As they set us down to prep us for the day’s event, Vanna popped in to say hello! She was gorgeous and flawless even without make up, and so warm and friendly. We got to meet Pat later on, closer to when the show started. I remember seeing a production crew member that was a total look alike. (I asked him later when I got to the bonus round if he was Pat’s brother, but he was not related at all!). Pat is a legend and is everything like you see on TV…need I say more?
Were there any funny interactions you had with Pat during your game?
I would say the funniest moment was in the beginning of the show with my fellow player, Debbie. I can never forget her! I felt terrible because she played a huge part of me winning, but happy we all ended with a great game. Pat introduced her and she just froze. He had asked about her family and she went completely blank. We all just looked at her thinking - “say something!” He had to reel her in and she definitely recovered from it. It made me a bit nervous introducing myself but Pat is a natural when it comes to bringing people back to reality!
Were there any special highlights of your game? Specific puzzles you solved, or didn't solve.
I won the second toss up, “Watering the Plants,” which immediately made me feel relieved. Toss Up’s are generally challenging for me. I thought to myself at least I had won something, and I could just play for fun without worrying about not winning anything else! When we got to the prize puzzle round, Debbie had guessed most of the letters and when she lost her turn, it came to me! I spun once at landed on $3,500, calling out one letter. I reached for the wheel again but then looked at Pat and told him I was going to solve. It was not worth gambling on the prize puzzle round! I had won a trip to Costa Rica which I am looking very much forward to!
Special wedges you picked up or prizes you won?
The million dollar wedge!! I landed on it, but did not get the right letter. It was an honor to land on it and not on a bankrupt. Hopeful that was another sign from the universe!
What was it like going to/winning the Bonus Round?
If I was dreaming before, this was totally like that movie Inception. It was like having a great dream, only to realize I was entering another great dream.
The whole game I was having fun! I didn’t even look at the score board till after I won the prize puzzle which helped me advance to the bonus round. During the bonus round, I was fortunate to have guessed good letters, and before you know it, Pat opened the envelope and asked if I wanted a car? It was a feeling you really can’t explain in words. I remember my mom holding me back before we ran to car asking “What did you do!!” and I just told her “Mom, we’re on TV, we got to run to the car!!” She ran straight to the driver’s seat. Let’s just say the car is hers!
I want to give out a shot out to the contestant coordinators, production crew, make-up artists, the lawyer representative, and the producers for being with us every step of the way and making it one my life’s greatest experiences. Thank you for being so unbelievably passionate about what you do and making us feel like a star every step of the way.
