One of my earliest and best memories is visiting my great grandparents and watching Wheel of Fortune.  We enjoyed playing Wheel together from home and venturing guesses at the puzzles with only one or two letters showing.  From the time I learned to read, I have loved puzzles, word games and game shows.  When I heard that the Wheelmobile was coming to a nearby town in search of contestants, I knew that I wanted to try out to be a contestant.

Jane and I have been watching Wheel of Fortune since we were kids, and it was on our bucket list to be contestants, but we never did try.

Jane’s daughter Jessica called us one day and wanted to meet up with us. When she got there, she had a big smile on her face and said, "I'm entering you both for Best Friends Week on Wheel of Fortune!"  We were excited and hopeful when Jessica videotaped us on her phone.  She said she had to make a YouTube...

Like many contestants, my three sisters and I grew up watching Wheel of Fortune with my parents. My parents are both quite good at solving puzzles, so each night we would all watch intently and try to be the first to shout out the answer. Because of those memories, Wheel of Fortune has long been one of my favorite shows, and it has always been a sort of far-fetched dream of mine to one day appear on the show.

    In mid-December,...

I have been watching Wheel of Fortune since its very first show 32 years ago while I was still on active duty in the military. My wife, Lisa, started watching Wheel in college when her and dorm mates would gather in the common room and watch it together. My first attempt to become a contestant on Wheel came when I was a Chief Petty Officer with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. I was able to contact the right people and they told me they would be doing a...

Sitting at my desk, I hear one of the loudest shrieks of my life. I looked at one of my co-workers and she screamed, “I can audition for the Wheel of Fortune!”. I told her it was a bucket list item of mine. She said, “I can bring a friend, come on!” I did.

I have always been an avid Wheel of Fortune fan and viewer, however, when I realized I was going to be able to audition/try out, things changed. I downloaded the WOF app on my iPhone, both...

Why did you decide to apply to be a contestant?

From a young age, my family would watch Wheel of Fortune while preparing dinner and hanging out most evenings. We always loved the interactive nature of the show and I liked to play against my brothers and parents to see who could get the puzzles first. I remember getting quicker and quicker until my mom finally said, “You know, you would do great on this show.” That stuck with me. A few years later, I was...

I feel like every Wheel of Fortune fan is one because they watched it as a kid with their grandparents. I'm no different. I had a set of grandparents that lived just a mile away, so I was over there constantly. Any night that I'd be there, we'd watch Wheel at 6:30 sharp. Except for Sundays, when I sat down on the floor in front of their chairs fully expecting to hear the crowd scream “WHEEL. OF. FORRRRRTUNE!” right at 6:30, and instead getting treated to some guy saying,...

Being a contestant on Wheel of Fortune is a once in a lifetime, amazingly unique experience.   With that being said, here are a few words of wisdom from one contestant to another.

First off, prepare diligently.  You do not want to show up the day of your show and afterwards say to yourself, "Geez, I wasn't as prepared as some of the other contestants."  And trust me when I say that at your taping will be the "creme de la creme" of wheel watchers.  So...

Every night at the firehouse we watch the show when we eat dinner and the guys kept saying you have got to try out. So I went online and filled out the application and I was notified for an audition, but I was going to be out of town and therefore I would be unable to attend. So a couple years later I tried again and then I was asked to submit a video. I have to admit I was reluctant to send in a video, I just felt awkward, so after a little bit of talking myself...

It was a Saturday afternoon and my children were gone for the day.  While scrolling through social media, a friend posted that the Wheelmobile was in town. I immediately threw on my Jimmy Hendrix t-shirt and a hat  (to cover my bed head) and headed to the location just in time for auditions. I sat alone in the audience and just as I convinced myself that I wouldn’t be picked out of the hundreds of people, the sound of my name being called over the microphone made me jump out...
