ROBIN STRASSER

Playing for: One Life, Many Voices Foundation and HEAL

Robin Strasser, 1982 winner of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama, has been one of the most compelling performers in that genre for over 40 years. She also created the roles of Rachel on “Another World,” Christina on “All My Children” and Hecuba, a 300-year-old witch, on “Passions” (for which, in 2001, she was named Soap Opera Digest’s Outstanding Scene Stealer). As Dorian she won the 1996 Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Lead Actress and the 1996 Soap Opera Update Award for Best Actress.

Born in the Bronx and raised in Manhattan, Ms. Strasser graduated from the High School of Performing Arts and attended the Yale School of Drama on a full scholarship. She appeared on Broadway in Michael Cristofer’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “The Shadow Box,” and played the coveted role of Jenny in Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two.” A founding member of the American Conservatory Theatre, she has worked with such prestigious companies as the Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Mark Taper Forum and Playwrights Horizons. Most recently she starred in “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife” at the Papermill Playhouse.

On primetime television Ms. Strasser starred in the miniseries “Baby M,” “Glitz,” “Blind Faith” and “Jackie Collins’ Lady Boss.” She had recurring roles on “Knots Landing” and Coach,” and made guest-star appearances on “Murphy Brown,” “Dear John,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “China Beach,” “The Young Riders,” “Highway to Heaven,” “Civil Wars” and “Dharma and Greg.”

Ms. Strasser was elected to and is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the New York Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She served as president of L.A.’s Women in Theatre for two years, produced three Equity Waiver productions, has sold her first teleplay and produced videos in the areas of women’s health and fitness. She is active in fundraising for AIDS research, the Actor’s Fund, is on the Advisory Board of the American Menopause Foundation, and has been a pro-bono spokesperson for the National Osteoporosis Foundation.

Ms. Strasser has produced a CD with fellow “One Life to Live” cast-mates in aid of New Orleans/Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief efforts. The CD is entitled “One Life, Many Voices” (www.onelifemanyvoices.com).

Ms. Strasser has renovated twenty-two houses and apartments, is a certified Level-One Kripalu Yoga teacher, an avid hiker and gourmet cook. She currently shares her home with a 15-lb Maltese/Bichon, Scooter, and a 5-lb Maltese, Bisou -- her “surrogate daughters.” She’s the proud mother of two grown sons, Nicholas and Benjamin Luckinbill.
