Sili P's Blog Post
First off let me say a big THANK YOU to everyone at Wheel of Fortune for not only choosing me to be a contestant on the show, but for the great time and experience I had! My hubby and I have been big fans of the show forever and it was an honor and a privilege to be chosen as a contestant.
How did I become a contestant you ask? Well, it all starts with a long standing rivalry between my handsome husband and I. My hubby, Mase, is and has always been the reigning Scrabble champion in our home and he is much better than Iam at playing Wheel from the comfort of our couch. About 5 or 6 years ago, Mase applied to be a contestant online, auditioned, and was chosen. We expected great things from him since he is so good at the puzzles. He did okay on his show winning $4000. He missed solving the prize puzzle, “_ristine mountain lake” by one simple letter, “P.” That “P” cost him the show, cost us a ski trip to Canada, and has haunted him ever since. I was super excited about the $4000 he did win, more than we had before, right? Unfortunately, Mase was so disappointed in himself that he kept bugging me to apply online to be a contestant and redeem the family name. Finally, I did it.
I applied online to be a contestant 5 or 6 times before I received an email requesting a 30 second video introducing myself and explaining why I wanted to be on the show. After months, literally, of putting it off because I was too busy being a wife, mother of 2, and a full time RN I conceded and did it. Mase filmed me via my iPhone in my scrubs before I headed out the door to the hospital. Shortly after that I received another email saying I got an audition. SCORE! Although, I stink at solving the puzzles I knew between my sparkling personality, loud voice, and ability to perform well under pressure that I could do this. That’s just what I did!
Two weeks after my audition I received a large package in the mail stating that I had been chosen to be a contestant. YES!!! I put it on Facebook and got 100 likes almost instantly, called all my family, and text all my friends. They were so excited for me, but no one was more excited than my husband. He sought redemption through me and I saw an opportunity to finally be the Wheel champion in our house. Game on!
To prep for the show we watched Wheel religiously and played the game on our iPad. Mase was a wonderful coach and tried to teach me tricks to solving the puzzles. I prayed to the good Lord above for divine intervention and then I just didn’t worry about it.
The day of the show I was so excited! It was so much fun meeting all the other interesting contestants and prepping for taping. The contestant crew is amazing! They all want you to do well, they are bursting with positive energy, and Gary has the coolest hair and style of any cat I know. Vanna even popped in before hair and makeup to say hello and good luck. She’s fabulous and we just love her.
Best advice I could give is to enjoy the ride, appreciate every moment, and don’t sweat it. If chosen to be a contestant, you get to appear on America’s #1 game show, it’s an amazing story to tell, and you receive $1000 just for showing up! Where else in the world does that happen?! I figured anything above $1000 I win is all icing on the cake. I was already a big winner getting on this great show!
Did I win more than $1000 and how does the rivalry end between my hubby and I? You’ll have to tune in to watch and see what happens August 14th...hee, hee.
