I have been a “wheel watcher” for as long as I can remember…and it has always been a dream of mine to be on the show! In May of last year I spotted a story on my local newspapers website that said the Wheelmobile would be at a local mini-mall! I was elated, and determined to get to that event!
It was so exciting to see “THE” Wheelmobile in person…and I couldn’t wait to get down to business! So I (and hundreds of others) filled out our TINY slips of paper that could potentially be our “ticket” to a chance at playing the game! I tried to think of a way to make my slip of paper stand out from the others – but there was really no way to do this because they put all of our papers into a big barrel that they spin around and around to mix up all of our entries. Even though having my slip of paper picked was a longshot, I still decided to send a message on mine – you see, I was eager to get up there, so I wrote my last name (thanks hubby Kevin J) in BOLDED CAPITAL LETTERS, underlined and exclamation pointed, for added measure! (EAGER!!!)
So the event began, and they picked people to come up on the stage and play for more than an hour. I had not been called, but I was having a great time…Marty (the stand-in Pat Sajak), said he was about to call the last 5 names of the day. First name, second, third, when he looked at the fourth name and announced “this is a fun name”, I knew that my name had been selected! It was such an exhilarating moment! So this is how my Wheel of Fortune adventure began!
My family and friends were so enthusiastic and supportive of my auditions and adventure! They were all super surprised when we told them we were headed out to LA to tape the show…my kindergarten class was tickled that they would be seeing me on the television soon!
When I walked into the Sony studios, I felt as if I was in a dream! I really was living out a life-long desire! God is SO good! I had been selected to be on the “Happy Mother’s Day” themed week, and what a blessing that was! I made 19 new friends that day, all of us moms, each in different stages of mothering (and grand-mothering). But we shared an incredible bond that day…everyone was SO supportive of one another, and we all rode the roller-coaster together of highs and lows during our day! So please be sure to watch the amazing women on “Wheel” this week, you won’t be disappointed, these ladies have SKILLS!
Vanna was so warm, and welcoming! She came into the contestant room before the taping to wish us all well – what a delight! And Pat Sajak is a very witty and engaging host, he tries to make you feel comfortable and at ease as you play. That is not an easy task considering cameras are zooming past you, and the fans in the audience are cheering and clapping! These two are PRO!
And speaking of PRO, let me just say a few words about the casting agents (Shannon, Alex and Jackie J). These ladies are the bomb! They have your back, and give you so much great advice you WILL feel your head spinning! However, if you listen to their advice and accept instruction, you will play the game like a skilled expert! That is, if the “wheel” is kind to you!
