Growing up watching the Wheel of Fortune with my family was tons of fun, especially when I solved the puzzles first! I figured I had nothing to lose if I tried out to be a contestant on the show and what a dream come true it would be if I did make it. I knew Wheel of Fortune would be the best game show for me because of my love for word games; I know that once you make it to the show you don’t necessarily have to be the big winner to walk away with some serious cash and prizes!
I first applied online 4 years ago. Since I had not heard from them in a long while, I figured why not register my name again at their website. My perseverance finally paid off when I got an email to submit a 60 second video clip of why I would be a good WOF contestant. A couple days later, literally, I got an email invitation to a live audition in Las Vegas; then whoever passed that audition would get to be on the actual show! The waiting period of wondering whether I was going to be a contestant or not, to the time that I finally got called with an actual air date for my TV taping was super exciting; at the same time, it seemed like I was waiting forever. But it was definitely worth the wait!
I prepared for the show very seriously. I watched every single episode from the time I knew I was going to be a contestant. I even had a special WOF notebook where I jotted down hard to solve puzzles or the most common two or three-letter words, letter combinations etc. I also bought a couple of hangman puzzle books from a local bookstore. Friends and family would help me study previous puzzles that have been used on the show. Yes, Lady Luck is definitely involved when you spin the famous wheel, but I wanted to be as ready as I could be. My motto is that “if I do my best and have lots of fun while doing it, God will do the rest!”
Being on the Wheel of Fortune was one of the most exciting, anticipated, once in a lifetime moments I have ever experienced. So if you enjoy solving puzzles and are pretty good at it, make sure you apply as a contestant. Once you make it to the actual show, prep yourself the best you can. The WOF contestant coordinators are the ultimate at what they do. They know how to put everyone at ease and they really do want all the contestants to make as much money as possible. Yes, everyone wants to spin the Wheel to win lots of cash and prizes, but why not have fun while you’re at it?! Don’t get discouraged if you spin and land on a BANKRUPT or LOSE A TURN! Keep the game moving because the game isn’t over until the very last round. Hope that helps!
