My husband and I will be on Wheel of Fortune for Romance Week; but when we talk about the romance of playing games, that is actually one of my favorite pastimes. I have been watching Wheel of Fortune; it seems, from the very beginning, some 30 years ago. My family and I would sit and watch Wheel of Fortune and see who would be the first to yell out the answers. It was such great fun!
So when I saw that the Wheelmobile was going to be in a town near where we live, I persuaded my husband to go with me for the preliminary screening process. It turned out, that when it rains it pours, because that is exactly what happened on the day of the auditions, severe downpours. We certainly never let that dampen our moods. We waited and moved along with the line until it was our time to enter into the area where the makeshift stage and wheel was, with the hope that one of our names would be called.
And wouldn't you know it, my husband's name was called. There I was jumping up and down with excitement, and there was Peter nervously going up on the stage to play the game. To start it all off, all of the contestants had to talk about themselves, and of course, Peter, being an entertainer, broke into a song and began to sing to me in the audience. It was hilarious and the staff came up to us afterwards and told us we would be perfect contestants for the couples' shows.
When we left, we were told we would be notified within a short period of time if we were chosen for the next set of auditions. Days went by; weeks went by; months went by. Then we finally received notification that there was a spot for us to attend the auditions in San Diego. Of course, we went and had so much fun. There were written tests, and after that, some contestants were let go; games were played and more contestants were let go. But we played on and on, solved some puzzles, and made it to the very end. The Wheel of Fortune staff were so friendly, exciting and gave us so much guidance as we went through this crazy and wonderful experience.
The festivities finally ended and we left with a goodie bag full of Wheel of Fortune souvenirs. The best thing was the signed photo of Pat and Vanna. What a great day! They told us we would receive a letter within two weeks if we were selected as contestants on the show.
Again, it was weeks, months and even felt like years, but then the email came and I had to read it over and over again to realize that we really were going to be contestants on the Wheel of Fortune. I called Peter and all I said was "Wheel of Fortune," and he went crazy. We had to make our plans to be up in LA within a few weeks.
So to say that the enjoyment of playing games has rubbed off is an understatement. We both now watch Wheel of Fortune nightly and compete to see who can solve the puzzle first.
Join us and watch our excitement as we spin the Wheel on Monday, July 8th during Sandals® Resorts Romance Week and see how it all turns out!
