This was it the big day! I could barely sleep the night before I was so excited. I awoke early that morning to get dressed. I had to be at the studio by 7:45 am and I wanted to be sure to not catch any traffic.
When I arrived at the studio, I patiently waited to be let in. Once the contestant coordinators arrived, they let us all in and began explaining to us how the day would work. They explained all of the rules on how to play the game and things that we legally needed to know about playing. I was bouncing with excitement; I couldn't wait to tape the show!
It was so fun to meet the other contestants. Everyone was so nice and friendly, and just as enthusiastic as I was. We all shared stories about how it was a lifelong dream to play Wheel of Fortune. Then we had a surprise guest! Vanna came in to introduce herself to us and wish us luck! She really is a very sweet and caring person!
Since there are multiple tapings in one day, we had to draw numbers to determine which show we would play. We then had to draw again to decide in what order we would stand. I got to stand next to Pat!
For the next half hour, I felt like a movie star as the team applied makeup and curled my hair. I could get used to this! We then went out to the studio and had a chance to practice spinning the wheel. I couldn't believe it. I had grown up watching this set on TV and now I was standing there, soaking it all in.
When it was finally my turn to spin the wheel for practice, I could barely spin it! The WOF crew wasn't kidding when they told us the wheel weighs approximately 1,000 pounds! I tried again and it went a little further this time. I really had to get leverage by grabbing onto the podium. Pat must have strong arms from spinning the wheel all of the time!
This was it my turn to tape the show! There are so many things to remember when introducing yourself.mention your wonderful spouse, your occupation, and any hobbies. And I just had to wish my parents a Happy 44th Wedding Anniversary! But above all, remember to smile!
The first toss up appeared, and I solved it! The second toss up came and another contestant had her chance to solve it. It really makes me happy when all of the contestants have a fair share of playing time, so I was glad we were all doing well.
It's true what they say it is a LOT easier to play just sitting on your couch. On the actual show, you have to concentrate on what letters have already been called, what the category is, and oh yes, SMILE! I landed on the Mystery Wedge and told myself to take a chance, but was saddened when I pulled up the Bankrupt card. Yet still, I'm glad I had the opportunity to take a risk!
The $3,000 Toss-Up popped up, and I quickly solved it with 'The Cosby Show'. I sure am glad that I love watching reruns! I managed to solve one more puzzle and couldn't believe it in just a quick 30 minutes I was $8,600 richer!
Though I didn't make it to the bonus round, I was so happy with my results. I had solved 3 puzzles and everyone on the show had a chance to win a little extra cash.
Wheel of Fortune truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity! You never know how you will do the wheel will choose between being your best friend or your worst enemy.
Now I am encouraging my husband to audition! I want all of my friends to try. After all, this is America's game, and I am so happy for the wonderful memories I now have!
