I grew up watching Wheel of Fortune with my family! We traditionally ate dinner and then headed to the couch for a little friendly competition. Even at a young age, I knew that I was destined to be on the show one day I just hoped it would stay on the air long enough!
Over the years, I applied several times on the internet. I would sign up for anything, Best Friends Week, Sweetheart's week you name it! One time the Wheel Mobile came to Dallas and I went to the open audition. I was in shock when I saw that about 2,000 people had shown up! I didn't have any luck that day, but I knew I was one step closer to fulfilling my dream.
A couple of years later, my mother-in-law called to tell me that Wheel of Fortune was holding the Face of the Fan contest. All I had to do was upload a short video describing why I deserved to be on the wheel! Eagerly, I went home and filmed my video.
About two months later, I received the most exciting email of my life. I had been selected to audition! I literally screamed with delight and couldn't stop smiling! I rushed home to pick out the perfect outfit and then began watching reruns to practice for the big day.
When I arrived at the audition, there were about 50-60 other contestants. The WOF crew explained that we would audition by playing a few games. Everyone would have a chance to call a letter. When my name was called I hopped out of my seat as quickly as I could. "N!!!!!" I yelled! The WOF crew got excited and yelled back at me, 'Good voice! Good energy!' I knew I had caught their attention.
We then had 5 minutes to do a written test, and goodness, it was hard! I was excited to solve about 6 out of 15 puzzles. The WOF crew left to evaluate our tests and talk about our energy.
When the WOF crew came back they cut about half of the room from the audition. I had made the first round! We then had a chance to come up front to play additional games and practice introducing ourselves. At this point I had been smiling and clapping for long my face hurt, but I didn't care. This was the moment I had been waiting for!
The WOF crew left yet again to evaluate the candidates. When they came back, they had some exciting news there was a spot left at the taping in 8 days. They called my name and asked if I could attend. Me? I was the very first person they had picked? I squealed with delight and told them I would gladly find my way to Culver City for the taping.
After the audition, I called my husband and asked him how he felt about a quick mini-vacation. He was just as shocked that I was the first person to be picked, but of course we could go! Next, I called my boss and requested time off and she gladly obliged. She just asked that I remember her when I became famous!
The audition process itself was the experience of a lifetime. I highly recommend it to everyone!
Tune in on Wednesday, June 26th to see how I did!
