I must tell you, the night before game day is so hard to fall asleep! All I kept thinking is that I can't believe tomorrow is the big day I'm going to be on Wheel of Fortune! Unfortunately I forgot to put my phone on silent so around 4 a.m. my East Coast family and friends begin texting me well wishes!
Forget it, after that I couldn't fall back to sleep! Soon I'm ready to go, so I say goodbye to my husband and head to the lobby to meet my fellow contestants. The energy in the lobby is quite high for being so early in the morning! The shuttle is ready to take us to Sony studios here we go! Upon arrival at the studio we are ushered into the contestant room to have some breakfast, fill out paperwork and meet the Wheel's wonderful staff! This includes meeting Vanna! Vanna strolls into the room to say hello and wishes us all good luck!
She really is so nice! The staff then explains the rules to us and we're brought out to the stage! It is such a surreal moment you just can't believe that you're standing on the Wheel of Fortune stage! We gather around the wheel and then we're given the opportunity to spin it. Let me tell you the wheel is much smaller in person and it is really heavy! Then it's back to the contestant room where we discuss more rules and get our makeup done. Now it's time to find out who we will be playing with! Turns out, I'm playing with Wendy and Jeff and we're all in blue, so we call ourselves the blue crew! Wendy is chosen to pick what game we'll be playing in and she chooses number 2. I just didn't want to be number 1 whew (so we could watch at least one game)! Now we get to find out what position we'll be in on stage turns out I'm right next to Pat! Wow! Next we head out to the stage for rehearsal with our team. At this time we also have to record a promo for our local TV station. So exciting! During rehearsal time, we are told to speak loud and clear. I couldn't believe that I was told to speak louder that has never happened before!
As the excitement builds, we're told its game time! Team number 1 heads to the stage to get ready. As soon as the first game is over the Wheel staff comes and gets us to retouch our makeup and leads us to the stage. Now the butterflies really begin! Here comes Pat and Vanna! Unfortunately I didn't get the first toss up, but Jeff got it right away. At this point I'm thinking oh no, but I'm determined to not let my nerves get the better of me. I continue cheering my other team mates on and hope that I can solve the first puzzle. We get off to a bumpy start with bankrupts, but soon our first round is moving right along.
Thankfully I land on the jackpot wedge and I can't believe it, I can solve it! Oh my goodness I just won the jackpot! The next round I land on the bankrupt or 10,000 wedge and I decide to go for it. I can't believe that its 10,000 dollars! Unfortunately I call an "I" and it's not in the puzzle. I never get my turn back to try and solve it for the money. The next round is the prize puzzle round. Before I know it, it comes back to me and I'm able to solve the puzzle I will never forget "refreshing pineapple smoothie"! When Pat comes over to me, I ask him where I'm going Hawaii?! Yes I'm Maui-bound! Pat says that I can take some hula lessons and during the break I say "oh goodie". Of course Pat announces this on national TV when we return from break! Did I just say "oh goodie" on national TV yes I did! My friends and family are going to have a field day with that! Now it's time for the last round. Jeff closes in on my lead, but it's not enough to take it over. I can't believe it I'm going to the bonus round! I just can't believe this is happening! All during the breaks, the wonderful Wheel staff is cheering us on, making sure we drink some water and touching up our makeup. I absolutely loved this you felt like a movie star for the day!
Now it's onto the bonus round. I'm given a few practice spins and Pat comes back over. He's very nice and tries to reassure you and put you at ease. The category is "what are you doing". I know that the puzzle more than likely ends in "ing", but should I call the "I" and "g"? What to do? I call those letters and of course they are there, but none of my other letters are. It's one word, which is very difficult. The word "bonding" pops into my head so I say it before the clock even starts. Nope that's not it, so I'm now at a loss. Ten seconds go by so fast! Unfortunately I'm not able to solve the puzzle, which was "banking". When Pat opens the envelope I want to cry it was $45,000! Looking on the bright side, at least I didn't just win the minimum $1,000 and I'm heading to Maui! I certainly can't complain about that!
This experience has been one of the coolest experiences of my life! Thank you so much Wheel of Fortune for such an incredible experience.
