Hello! My name is Jason from New Braunfels, TX, and as far back as I can remember, I have been a Wheel Watcher! At an early age, after school I would go to my grandparents house where, at the same time every evening we had to keep it down because WOF was on! I soon started playing along with my grandparents and in no time at all, was even solving some puzzles before them! As my life progressed, I stayed a faithful as a Wheel watcher. When I hit the age of 30 I thought, Why not try to be on the show myself? My first couple of online submissions had no results, so I decided to give trying a rest. One day, while at work, some coworkers and I were discussing an amazing puzzle solved from the prior evenings show, and it prompted me to go ahead and apply to be a contestant again. Why not? Third times a charm, right? Well, it was.
Sitting on the porch one July evening I received an email stating that I had been selected. I quickly called the number I had been instructed to call to confirm! I was going to get to audition for WOF! Finally! My audition was on a miserably hot, South Texas Tuesday, on September 11th. I can remember being so nervous and trying not to sweat. Upon meeting the awesome team of contestant coordinators those nerves were quickly put to rest! Soon, we were all shouting out letters! We were given a sheet of paper with approximately 30 partially solved puzzles, and given five minutes to solve as many as we could. I think I remember solving around 25 of those! Shortly after that, we got to do a simulated WOF game on the big screen (that was a blast!). After the audition, we were told that IF we were selected as a contestant, we would be notified by mail within two weeks. The wait began.
Two weeks had gone by. I had resolved that I had at least gotten to audition, and I would be happy to have just had that opportunity. The next day, my wife called me at work and told me there was a Wheel of Fortune letter in the mail. I really thought she must just be getting me back for the many April Fools jokes I try to play on her, but it had! It said I was selected to be a contestant! Very excited, I called the one person I knew would be just as excited as me, my Grandmother!
I later received a phone call from a contestant coordinator, and then a package with the detailed information on the filming of my show! I was beyond excited about the chance to be on Wheel, and ready to spin!
After the airing of my show on Monday March 18th, stay tuned for my next blog. Ill fill you in on the show experience, as well as the filming process! Keep watching Wheel and go apply to be a contestant. It can happen to you, too!
