We were sitting at home one night watching Wheel of Fortune and I said to Geneva, "Why don't we see what it takes to get on this show!" After reviewing the website we filled out the simple questionnaire and didn't think much of it after that night, not realizing that in a few months they were going to be filming a Military Families week. Geneva is active duty in the United States Navy and they wanted active duty families to appear on the show, and we were lucky enough to be asked to come audition. When I received the e-mail from the Contestant Coordinators about coming to an audition I was in disbelief. As a life-long Wheel of Fortune viewer, I was blown away that we had this opportunity!
We left from San Diego the night before the audition and stayed with family in Downey. The stay started with Geneva being really nervous and me being very calm to the exact opposite where I almost could not speak when it was our turn to play the mock game. The Contestant Coordinators were very friendly and high energy. They were very welcoming and made the audition experience very fun. After being asked to stay for the second round of the audition I knew that we had a really good chance of being on the show, and at that point Geneva and I were all smiles. Just having this experience was amazing. One of the Contestant Coordinators told us that we should hear from them in the next 3 weeks, or else we probably did not make it.
When it turned three weeks and we had not gotten a call yet, we assumed that we did not make it and were pretty disappointed. We checked the mail box every day hoping to see a Wheel of Fortune envelope but it did not come. At about three and a half weeks in, Geneva and I were on vacation in our home state of New Jersey visiting our families when we received a call from Culver City. We were literally explaining to them that we didn't hear from Wheel of Fortune and it was past the three week time frame, and we accepted the fact that we had not made it. When Geneva called back she was informed that we had made it and we were going to be on Wheel of Fortune! Little did we know how great it was going to turn out.
Watch us spin on Wednesday, November 14th!
