My Wheel journey began as a child when I watched a language arts teacher from my junior high school play on what is known as America's Favorite Game Show. From that day on, I became an avid Wheel watcher. As a child in junior high school, who would have thought that one day, this language arts teacher would also get her chance to appear on Wheel of Fortune. When I received the e-mail stating that I was wanted to audition for the show, I could not fathom it! After years of filling out the on-line contestant registration form, I too might actually get the chance to play Wheel on television.
Luckily for me, the auditions took place in Manhattan, which is right in my hometown area. During the audition, the contestant coordinators had such poker faces on that it was difficult to tell whether you would continue on during the audition or get the boot! However, the key was just to relax, have fun with it, and show them why they picked you in the first place. I tuned out the other competition in the room, and my main focus was on showing the contestant coordinators that I had the makings of a great contestant. I made it through to the final round of auditions, and then the waiting game took place. The contestant coordinators told us that it could take up to one month to actually be notified to see if we were wanted to be a contestant or not.
During my waiting period, I had two vacations already planned. This helped to ease my mind a bit and calm down the anxiety of waiting to find out whether I made the actual cut or not. Without exaggeration, it literally took one month for the long anticipated letter to finally arrive. I said to myself, "Boy, they really know how to make you sweat it out!" The letter stated that I was wanted as a contestant, but it could take up to 18 months to be called before actually appearing on the show.
Not knowing when the time would come, I continued to watch Wheel of Fortune every night and I continued to play the game on my computer. It was not long after I received the letter that the call finally came from one of the contestant coordinators. It was time for me to fly out to Los Angeles and play Wheel of Fortune! I was ecstatic! Not only was I going to be on television, I was also getting a chance of a lifetime to play for a million dollars and to see the West Coast for the first time in my life! With my lucky fish charm in hand given to me by a good friend, I was off for my chance at winning big on America's Favorite Game Show.
